Promoter Bettina Palle has officially announced that Danish superstar Thomas 'Lionheart' Damgaard (36-0, 27 KOs), a former European champ both at jr. welter and at welter, will take on great warrior Arturo 'Thunder' Gatti (39-7, 30 KOs) in a scheduled non-title ten rounder on January 28 in Atlantic City, NJ. The bout will be contested at 147 pounds with Main Events promoting. Damgaard made his name in Europe with his brawling style and his 'take-no-prisoners' attitude, so that the matchup looks really exciting on paper with a likely taste of the Gatti vs Ward trilogy. All in all, an exciting matchup between two veterans and glorius battlers, a date to bookmark for any boxing fan on both sides of the Pond.

Gatti steigt nun also wie erwartet ins Weltergewicht auf. Ich denke Damgaard ist zu schlagen und danach könnten sich für Gatti ein paar interessante Paarungen ergeben.

Das ist auch wahrscheinlich das einzige auf dem es exciting aussehen wird, denn wer erwartet denn vom dänischen Superstar, dass er gegen Gatti in den Ring steigt, wenn er sich für Urkal noch nicht berufen fühlte...

Jo aus dem gleichen Grund aus dem er vorher schon 20 Titelkämpfe abgesagt hat... hat jedenfalls nichts mit Gatti zu tun, sondern eher damit, dass sein Nickname unpassend ist...

Obwohl er sich gegen Gatti zu trauen scheint? Da hätte er doch viel eher Grund, sich zu fürchten.....Oder rechnest Du fest mit einer erneuten Absage?

Sooo gefährlich ist der Arturo nun auch nicht mehr. Der baut schon recht deutlich ab und ist meilenweit von seiner Prime entfernt. Gegen die Besten einer Gewichtsklasse kann er noch als Sandsack herhalten, aber er ist ganz sicher nicht mehr der epische Warrior von früher.

gleiches gilt für Damgaard

trotzdem, wenn ich als älterer Boxer nen Angebot bekomme gegen Gatti zu kämpfen, dann würd ich auch nen Kampf gegen Urkal absagen.....vorallem wenn's gegen den jetzigen Gatti geht....

Obwohl er sich gegen Gatti zu trauen scheint? Da hätte er doch viel eher Grund, sich zu fürchten.....Oder rechnest Du fest mit einer erneuten Absage?

zu trauen scheint ist gut, er schien sich ja immer schon zu trauen denn die Kämpfe standen ja alle bereits, Angebote angenommen hat er genug, bevor er absagt... Vielleicht alles nur Taktik um jetzt den Gatti-Kampf klarzumachen! :thumb:

"There is no deal at this time for Gatti to fight (Thomas) Damgaard," stated Donald Tremblay, publicist for Main Events, in reference to the "official" announcement on the website for Danish promotional firm Team Palle that Gatti’s next fight would be with the Danish fighter. "Damgaard is just one possible opponent on a list of many fighters that are being considered." For several weeks, rumors had circulated on the internet and in the European press that the two warriors could clash. "The only thing true about the rumor is that Gatti’s next fight will be in Atlantic City and in January." Tremblay could not confirm the exact date of Gatti’s next fight except that it will be in January 2006. "It is too early to speculate on the opponent, much less the weight." Tremblay did confirm that Carl Moretti, the VP of Operations for Main Events, had spoken with Damgaard’s team (Palle at International Entertainment) but "Damgaard is still just one of many opponents under consideration."

Also in the rumor mill for a Main Events fighter is that heavyweight contender Calvin Brock could be the co-main event for the Gatti date on HBO in January. Tremblay informed FightNews: "It’s been talked about that Brock could be the co-main for Gatti’s next fight but that is also too far into the future to speculate. It’s possible that (Vitali) Klitschko will want to fight Brock if he wins against (Hasim) Rahman. Klitschko has stated that he wants to fight Brock and that is one of many possibilities open to Brock." Tremblay did outline that Brock will fight again in 2005 but no opponent or date are finalized.
